​I wonder if you are someone who likes to refine how you do things? Do you look for ways to streamline a task in order to save time, or money or to reduce your climate impacts? We find that as farmers and as business owners we are often experimenting and needing to shift things from week to week or season to season.  This year we have added pre-washed bagged mixes (lettuce, spinach and stir-fry bags) to our market offerings. We thought many people would appreciate the convenience and quality of this product, and it turns out that you do - these bagged products have sold well!

We have a complicated relationship with plastic bags. Plastic pollution is a massive global problem, particularly in marine ecosystems. We avoid using extra plastic when we can and we applaud the City of Surrey for taking steps to eliminate single-use shopping bags in the coming year.  We don't want to encourage you to take home more plastic than necessary but we also know that most vegetables will wilt very quickly if not stored in a bag. So we'd like to try out a new way to sell you our salad mix.

1. You bring a clean reusable container (plastic, stainless steel, even Ziplock)  to the market.
2. We weigh the container at the checkout and fill it with salad mix.  Voila, one bag saved!!

If you forget your container, no problem we'll still have the bagged-up lettuce mix available.  That's the thing with learning to be earth-conscious consumers; we are always learning and trying to do the best we can in each stage of life.  As farmers and business owners we want to find the "even better yet" way to get fresh, healthy vegetables to you in the least amount of waste (primarily plastic waste). ​
